Friday January 15 2011 (Japan time)

I know something happened today but I don't remember, lol. I know that the University was closed today because of exams... But other then that, I don't remember what I did. I know I did something worth mentioning but I just cannot recall at the moment.

Saturday January 16 - Sunday January 17 2011 (Japan time)

Nothing special these two days. I stayed at home and studied. =) The weather wasn't too great so I didn't do anything worth mentioning. I decided to cut back on spending this month since I spent a lot of money buying clothing, lol. Must... stop.. But yea. Nothing worthwhile to report. =) Studied, studied. The end.

Monday January 17 2011 (Japan time)

I wrote my chapter 7 test today, lol. Class ended and Kendo was canceled today. The weather was miserable and people were transported via shuttle buses from the JR station because the JR stopped working, lol. I did not do anything too exciting today either because I was eager to get home. I did not want to get stuck out in Ainosato in this weather, lol. But yea, commute time is definitely getting longer. It took 2hrs + to get home today, lol. Some more snow pictures for your entertainment.

That be Beth
Looks cold right?
Then stay inside like this family. =)
The poor cars

Tuesday January 18 2011 (Japan time)

Met up with Hiro (A Japanese exchange student who went to Calgary for half a year) at the University and I was mighty surprised! Lol I did not expect him. I got a message from Shinoda-san, AKA the Vest Lady who works in the International Center. She told me to come to class when it ends because there was someone here who wanted to see me, lol. I was wondering who it was and yea, it was Hiro! Hohoho.

We met up again after class ended at the library. We caught the bus and train and ate at Sapporo station, lol. I never had curry soup before so we went to some random Curry Store on the sixth floor of Stellar Place and yea, I ordered chicken soup curry. Apparently, the meal would be free if you manage to eat the meal at 4x the original spiciness... If only I knew, lol! I totally would've tried. However, if it was too spicy, it would have destroyed the taste of curry, in my opinion. Lol. My tongue would have been too numb to taste anything... So yea, it wouldn't have been worth it anyways. =) But then again.. what if I did survive... LOL Oh well, there's always next time.

Me sipping my lemon tea
So I think I know why I never take pictures of food.. When I see it, taking a picture of it is not the first thing that comes to mind.. It's, "I am going to eat you and you will be good." When I finally remember to take a picture.. the food was gone, lol.
But yes, here's a picture of what I ate. It's the chicken curry soup to the left. =)
Hiro had to remind me otherwise I would've have devoured it.. Seriously, lol. It was damn good. Almond ice cream with Mango pudding. =)

We left the restaurant at around 5:30PM and walked around Big Camera for a wee bit. He bought a new pair of shoes, I showed him where Jupiter (The international supermarket) and then we parted ways at around 6:30PM. He had to go home because he was supposed to go out and drink with his dad and his cell phone died, lol. He figured it'd be best if he took the train home earlier than later. =) He also said he had to go back to Hakodate the day after at around.... 8AM? LOL. Hopefully that worked out, lol.

He also wanted to contact Kodama Sensei but he lost her contact info. I sent him a text message when I got home and yea, he was happy. =) I also bought myself some "Butter sand." Lol! Those things taste soo good.. Especially when you have not eaten them in awhile. (As with many things, I know) I devoured all of them before the night ended. =) The final one tasted extremely awesome because it was thoroughly cold!

Wednesday January 19 2011 (Japan time)

Kendo today. =) The "short, quiet one" helped us today. His name is Kentaro, lol. He kept on telling to pull my leg back a bit further but I was told to keep them closer. The tip of the left foot should be right behind the heel of the right, 1 foot apart, lol. Oh well, I was corrected again by Seigo-san afterward because I adjust to having my legs farther apart, lol. -sigh- What to do?

I finally managed to learn how they do this quick step movement while swinging with the stick, lol. It was extremely tiring because every time we screwed up... Seigo-san would slap on another 10 more and we'd have to start over, lol. In the end, Abdy and I ended up doing around 100 swings? Before that, we were practicing our footwork and swinging business so in total, Abdy and I were swinging our sticks around 300 times, lol. Seigo said that my final swings were too soft but yea, at the point... My shoulders were hurting, LOL! I just couldn't hit, "harder." I was doing fine at the beginning but yea, my old body gave up on me.. =(

But yea, got home and studied for my Kanji test. That's about it, lol. I also cooked up a small meal and ate. Eggs with the leftover squid... along with some random vegetable, lol. I ate it before in Calgary but I just don't remember the name of it... meh.

Thursday January 20 2011 (Japan time)

Japan definitely has weird weather... If not Japan, then at least Sapporo is weird. It was snowing for a good bit then it decided to hail and then it abruptly ended.. The sky is clear again. (Well, it's almost 7:30PM, the sky isn't clear but nothing is falling from the sky, lol.)

But yes, back on track. I was asked to read a few random Kanji today and failed miserably, lol! -sigh- I knew some of them but I forgot most of the ones I was asked to read, lol. -fail- What to do, what to do... I handed out a few surveys today for my project then talked to two friends I have not seen in awhile for a good hour before meeting up with Yuri, my host sister. I was a bit late but yea, I met her at the library and we had our usual English conversation. She bought me a cream puff and a little cup of caramel custard. =) (Yay, caramel!) We left at 5:05PM. I waited at the bus stop for a good 30 minutes because I was stupid and did not check the correct time,  lol. I was rather cold 20 minutes in but I only had 10 minutes left.. I figured I might as well endure the cold, lol. I got home at around 7PM. Cooked up a meal and packed lunch. I then went to the study hall and tried to look up relevant words for Geology in Japanese and yea, that was an utter failure, lol. I could not find a lot of words aside from really common ones and yea, in the end, I gave up trying to look for them because I just could not find any of the other minerals, etc. I attended the Tea gathering today and yea, handed out a few more surveys. Didn't really do much other than that... I returned to my room relatively early today and passed out early because I was soo tired, lol.

Friday January 21 2011 (Japan time)

So yea, the 9:30 and 10:10AM bus did not come today, lol... Beth, Dinara and I arrived at school at around 11:30, lol. I was supposed to hand out surveys today but I completely forgot! -damn- Instead, Christine, John, Scott and I went to the ramen shop in front of the University and we ate ramen... LOL It was awesome. Christine then had to go somewhere at 4... Scott, John and I went to Sapporo station to spy on random goods. Scott was looking for a wallet and an electric dictionary. He found a dictionary he might consider buying but is currently unsure. =) He will come back to it later. As for the wallet... He doesn't like wallets in Japan because of the coin purse is built into the wallet, lol. It's too bulky.

We left Sapporo station and wandered the streets to look for Ice cream but failed miserably.. Instead, we wandered to MOS Burger and I decided to be adventurous and give burgers one last chance. =) It was good, I have to admit but yea.. there was one major problem. There was waaaaayyyy too much mayo. -disappointment- But other then that, it's pretty much a burger infused with Asianness, lol! But yea, it just so happened that BookOff was right beside MOS Burger so we ventured into the store. =) According to John, Alex (The Russian guy) is learning a lot of vocabulary via reading manga... The book I am currently reading is interesting in its own way but yea... It's just full of text. I might need something lighter? I don't know, lol. I guess I will finish the book then decide. =)

Scott told me about some store near Pole Town and it hand good sales on brand name clothing. We wandered through the whole shopping strip mall sector and could not find it, lol. We were also supposed to go to this fancy store close to Oodori but we completely skipped over it because we were tired of walking and it was late.  In the end, we all strayed back to Sapporo Station because it was 9PM and they needed to get home in time for the Asian Soccer Cup game, lol. I parted from Scott and John at Oodori because that was where my subway was, lol. I got home and now I am here. =) Cool beans.

For some fun~ WHAT IS THE ORIENTATION OF THE FOLLOWING PHOTO?

Or is it?
=) First or Second?

Snow... Snow... 雪

Monday January 10th 2011 (Japan time)

So today I went to the Hokkaido Shrine again. It was the coming of years day today so yea, 20 year old boys in suits and 20 year old girls in kimono's visit the shrine. =) I saw a few and yea, there was one kimono that I saw on the subway which tops all other kimono's. Nothing about it was cliche.. It was overdone in a nice way and everything was well displayed. But yes, back on track... I took a few pictures of the shrine this time round because it was not infested by people. =) Nice place, right? =) The vendors were still there for some reason... I guess they're sticking around until people dwindle. I bought a charm from the shrine and a little plaque to write my little wishes for the year. =) I left the shrine then went browsing at the mall and the sales were even better today, lol. I bought a few things and yea, I am glad I waited. =) Nothing in particular happened today. No classes. =)

Look at the ice o_o!
The gates
The entrance from the inside.
I think the Blood Donation trucks on the left ruins the aesthetics of a shrine but meh... This is what you see when when you walk out of the gates of the shrine.

Tuesday January 11th 2011 (Japan time)

So, Ainosato 「あいの里」 is the name of the ward my University is in... Ainosato is often considered the "outcast" of Sapporo because well, it's too far away from the center, lol. According to my host sister, people in the past thought that Ainosato was outside of Sapporo, lol. But yes, it's also interesting to note that Ainosato is the only sector in the city that gets snowed in... What use to be a two-way street turned into one. Some sidewalks vanished, and Ainosato has the most ice covering the streets. Honestly, there's probably something equivalent to "permafrost" under the thick layers of snow, lol. In conclusion, Ainosato is neglected. I took a lot of pictures of the snow, lol. I find it hard to believe but yea, it's cool at the same time. =)

There were tons of these trucks transporting snow away from Ainosato. There was just too much snow.
The wall of snow
There use to be a sidewalk there, lol...
This is the stop I always get off at...
That's the bus shelter I go to when I go back into the City.

But anyhow, today I had class. =) I took a picture of the bus stop, lol. Nothing spectacular happened today but yea, the snow was interesting... It is also interesting to note that our 9:30AM bus did not come because of the snow. There was a huge lineup at the bus stop and yea, everyone rode the 10:05 bus, lol. Mind you we were late for class, lol. Angela didn't even come because the JR train's stopped moving.

Wednesday January 12th 2011 (Japan time)

I went to the University because there was a Kendo practice thing today, lol. Again, I took more pictures. =) It's getting worse every day~ Some of the bus routes were canceled because they could not clear the streets, lol.

Well hello there University Logo.
The tunnel system =)
Abdy and the snow.
Me and the snow...
It's like looking at Geology... But not really. Look at the bedding planes!
So yes, let's do a little comparision...

This....
Turned into this...

Kendo~

Walkway to the bus shelter

Kendo is a very loud sport.. The loudest of them all~ I took a few pictures after Abdy and I finally rested, lol. I felt like I was in the way. Did not do anything spectacular today. =)

Thursday January 13th 2011 (Japan time)

So yes, the teacher today was almost 1hr late, lol. She got stuck in traffic and yea, the visibility was pretty much 0. There's too much snow, lol. The city cannot keep up with the snow scooping business so they had to cancel parts of the bus route because it's not accessible... Or the road thinned down to one lane and it's nearly impossible to drive. But anyhow, I took a lot of pictures of the streets... Lol.

Second floor, the door leading out into a viewing area of our classroom.
Picture taken while on the bus of a sign that's covered. There use to be a walkway there too.
The poor kid.
Walkway leading to a bigger road in the neighborhood my host parents live in.
A picture of a small park on my way back to the bus stop.
The walkway to the bus stop. This walkway only somewhat exists because there's a functional bus stop, lol.

Friday January 14th 2011 (Japan time)

I met up with Christine today and we wandered the streets of Sapporo~ It took a little while to meet up at first because we were at different locations, lol. First we went to a little craft store because Lisa wanted to buy something. Lisa then left afterward because she was  catching a cold of some sort and she had other things to do at home. Christine and I wandered to the Beef Don shop and ate. We were chatting on and on, lol. I had a lot to talk about apparently. =) Thankfully it's all off my chest, lol. For the time being~

We walked back to Sapporo station where I showed her the new pair of shoes I wanted to buy for winter in Sapporo. (Yes, shoes specifically for the snow in Sapporo, lol.) I tried them on, she approved... We left to look for another pair but could not, lol. We ended up going to Starbucks and yea, we ordered drinks, sat in Starbucks and chatted away again. This time, it was her turn to vent. LOL~ Everything went well. =) We sat in Starbucks for a good hour or two? Afterward, she went to the washroom and I went to withdraw money. We went back to the shoe store and I bought the pair of boots for 100CAD equivalent. They didn't have a shoe box for it so they just put it in a bag, LOL... It was weird.

At that point, we did not really know what to do... We went to the Loft and shopped around for random goods. Christine bought a scrap book and a golden jell pen. I bought a notebook with a baby seal on it, lol. She wanted to look at other stationary so we went to the No Name store 「無印良品」 Where she bought two more pens, lol. We went back to the JR gates at 8PM and waited around for 15 minutes because her train does not come until 8:20.  AGAIN we chatted some more. She caught the train; I left and bought some buns for sale at the nearby bakery! Lol (yay) I went home, warmed up the buns, ate then went to the study hall to do fun stuff. =)

New Years 「お正月」

Hello, Calgary - From Sapporo.

Thursday December 30 2010 (Japan time)

I did my homework today. =) All of it. I wanted the rest of my Christmas Holidays to myself and not be preoccupied with homework. That's all I did today. Nothing special to report. Though... I will upload some random photos of photos I took on my iPod touch from awhile ago. =) I don't know when I took some of the but meh, here they are~

This be "motarasu" --- もたらす
Kota and I.
So the special today is Crab Imposing Fried Rice and Eat Chili Oil Fried Rice
Followed by some "The Gills grilling of Yellowtail."
For appetizers, we have some "Attaching Sleep Spit."
And last but not least, our most popular dish, Spit of the Moon or Cheese to Lucky. =) We hope you consider our suggestions. --- LOL ahh... This was taken on the day I was drunk to the point of death.

Friday December 31 2010 (Japan time)

I was invited by my host family to spend New Years Eve together. =) I gladly took on the offer and yea, I was glad I agreed. I bought a bouquet of ASIAN flowers and my host mother turned it into art. =) I took a picture of it with my iPod Touch... I always forget to bring my camera for such wonderful occasions...

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that there, in the middle, is from a pine tree. =) Everything here is symbolic, lol. Pine for long life. The red berries for fortune and the white flowers/twig in the back is symbolic of spring. =)

Anyhow, I met everyone in the family. From aunts to uncles to cousins and grandparents. =) I finally met the host family dad, lol. I guess he works away from home or something. I don't quite understand and I probably should not ask about it either. Everyone was so nice, lol. I ate dinner with everyone. Chatted with everyone. It was great. I wish I took pictures. I even made a little friend. His name is Ko-Chan, lol. He's around 7 years old and he hates being called Ko-chan. Awesome little kid. I'll try and ask my host to send me the picture she took of me Ko-chan.

The grandmother was very, very interesting. She is the polar opposite of my grandmother who lives in Vietnam. This grandmother smiles, jokes and is very active. Lmao. She was so awesome. She's so carefree. She smiles a lot... A... lot. Totally a plus for her. =) Her favorite color is brown.
The grandpa is a bit more strict, lol. He's a Calligraphy artist, lol. He was impressed that I knew stroke orders for Kanji... (Thanks a lot, Kodama Sensei!) But yea, he's also a HS teacher and likes the color purple and Kamaboko (蒲鉾).

But yes, Ko-Chan asked me if I will be around tomorrow and I said no. He then became sad and walked away. =(

I forgot my PJ's at home so I borrowed a pair from Hisashi. He was out partying with his friends when I went to bed, lol~ Ah... I slept in his room too. The room I was sleeping in before was preoccupied by grandparents and aunts/uncles. Dear gosh... Japanese people sleep under such heavy blankets.. I felt like the circulation in my body was getting cut off.

Saturday January 1 2011 (Japan time)

I woke up today at around 8:30 to eat breakfast with everyone. We had fish and some traditional New Years food, lol. I left at around 10:15AM because I was supposed to meet up with an OL from my University. She invited a group of us to go over to her house on New Years to celebrate and go to the temple, etc. =) I had two breakfasts that morning! (+ for me) We finished eating at around 11:30AM then we decided to have some fun with Calligraphy. It was my first time so I was a bit hesitant but I took a few pictures of the last two things I wrote, lol.

We then went to the shrine at around 1PM. It was close to the sector where I usually take the train to go back home. I was warned that shrines during New Years will become very crowded and yea... it was crowded, lol. Apparently, the biggest shrine in Sapporo (Hokkaido Shrine) was packed with people @ around 12AM, right when we hit 2011... (I saw pictures. My friend went there at around that time, lol.) But anyhow, I was dropped off somewhere close to my station and I went home and made dinner for myself. =) I did not do much other than relax, lol. It was a bit chilly today. I was planning on going to the Hokkaido Shrine but it was too dark to see anything. Instead, I just read my book and browsed the net... Then went to bed! =) Satisfaction.

Sunday January 2 2011 (Japan time)

Today I went to Hokkaido Jinjya. I did not bring my camera unfortunately. It was a fairly big shrine. And it was cold... It apparently was the biggest shrine in Sapporo and it really was, lol. There were vendors outside of the shrine selling food and random souvenirs. I wanted to buy little charms from the shrine but I did not have any money with me... I tried to withdraw money before I went to the shrine but yea, Hokuyo ATM's were closed... I went to the convenient store and it would not let me withdraw. Luckily, I had just enough money to buy transit fair to and from the shrine.

I went to the post office to try and withdraw money from their ATM's but it did not work... I finally went back to Sapporo Station and asked around. A lady finally told me that Hokuyo is closed all day until tomorrow because they are currently merging with another bank. (Great, I wanted to go shopping today too. Today is equivalent to "Boxing Day." Japanese people have huge sales after New Years. But yea, that plan was utterly spoiled. I was disappointed) Thankfully, I still had 100CAD equivalence in my room, lol. I went back home to get the money, left for Sapporo station and bought some kamaboko (蒲鉾) It turns out the grandpa in the family really likes that stuff. =) I like it too, lol. It's full of MSG. Mmm~ (Once in awhile only) But yea, I took the bus to my host parents house to visit grandparents one last time before they leave. We went out for dinner at around 5:30 at some Japanese restaurant. I bought a shellfish dinner set which came with various side dishes. =) It was great! Something I would never get in Calgary for the same price, lol. Maybe x2.

We all went home afterward and I asked them a question about my homework. In english they all mean "with" but in Japanese, it's slightly different.. I could not pick out the difference, lol. I had to ask... In return, I helped Yuri and Sayu with their English homework. =) I left at around 11:30 PM and got home at around 12PM. I said goodbye to grandparents and hopefully one day we will meet again. =) Anyhow, that was the end of my day.

Monday January 3 2011 (Japan time)

Thank god I still had a little bit of money, lol. I was supposed to go Skiing today and yea, it would have been troublesome if I did not have any money with me. It was only around ~30CAD. I would have been screwed if it was anything more, lol. But yea, 30CAD came with a ski jacket, snow pants, ski shoes, the glider thingies itself and a lunch voucher~ LOL It was totally worth it. It was a one day thing only. =(

Christine in all her glory. I look slightly distorted for some reason, lol.

But yea, skiing was... Interesting. It was mighty hard to get use to at first but yea, I managed to survive the bunny hill the first 20 minutes. We then took the lift up to the mountain and then yea, all hell broke lose.. LOL!!! I couldn't stop on the shallow hill going down. The dad's method was too difficult. Bibi taught me a different method and it was much easier, lol... I did not strain my legs at all but the chances of falling were bit greater, lol. The shallow hill was perfectly fine... Then came the steep hill.. LOL!! I did not fall down once until then. The scenery at the top was nice. I took a few photos. But anyhow, going down the steep hill was scary, lol. I was supposed to zigzag my way down but I couldn't turn right, lol. I usually end up just going straight and  yea, that's a bad thing, lol. It's much harder to stop and the chances of hitting someone is greater, lol. But anyhow, I fell down at least 5 times going down the hill and it took about 1hr and a 1/2. LOL~ When we finally got to the bottom... We all decided to go for lunch. There I took some more random photos and yea, my body was hurting. We went back outside to the bunny hill for a wee bit and then I went back up to THE hill... LOL Ahh... It seemed like such a waste of money if I did not at least take on that mountain at least 2x. The Chinese girl who was came with us refused to go back, lol. I managed to swerve side to side for a good few minutes... Then came the extremely steep part, lol. I did better this time round but I still fell a lot. Mindway.. I just went straight down and then crashed, LOL! Ah, it was scary but fun at the same time. Lots of laughter today~ I'm glad I went. =)

You can see the shore from the summit of the mountain~
The crew~
Once more
We're cool. We know.
Taken when it was about to turn dark. The lady closest to the camera is Christine's Host Mother, lol. But yea, look at the back. A black cloud of something is approaching the shore ;o~ Creepy. That's all for now.

By the way, the ski resort is about 30 minutes away from Sapporo station. It's called... I don't remember, lol. But anyhow, I took the train back with Christine's host mother and the Chinese girl. I slept on the train, lol. I got home at around 6? It was fun. =)

Tuesday January 4 2011 (Japan time)

I was expecting my body to ache today but it was only slightly sore when I got up.. but that quickly went away once I took a shower. Today, I went shopping. =) yay! LOL I finally could withdraw money from bank. I went straight to the mall and wandered... I bought a vest and a T-Shirt.. Everything I wanted to buy was gone.. -devastation- But yea, I also wanted to buy a pair of shoes because the ones I bought from home were not warm enough, lol. One has a hole and the other is very, very breathable... But anyhow, I found a pair of boots that I wanted and yea, there were two things wrong:

1: It was 400CAD
2: They did not have my size... At all.

LOL. I asked the guy if I could try on a different pair of boots just to see if I would fit in it and yea... I couldn't even fit the largest shoe size for boots in that store, lol... -sigh- That dream lasted about a week. I can now settle for something else. The price is rather outrageous, lol. But then again... I could wear then for 4 years.. =) LOL Anyhow. I went home at around 5:30PM~ Cooked then studied a bit. That ended my day.

Wednesday January 5 2011 (Japan time)

I showed Christine the boots today, lol. We went shopping around again and we went for some KaitenZushi~ Bibi was with us today. =) I didn't buy anything but Bibi bought a sweater from some store. She almost bought a new pair of shoes but refused to buy it because she already bought a pair... Christine didn't buy anything lol. She only window shopped. They spent a good 1hr going through Uniqlo and ABC Mart, lol... Slow shoppers -cough- Anyhow, I got home at around 6PM. Cooked dinner then went to the study hall to study for my kanji test for tomorrow. =) That's all.

Thursday January 6 2011 (Japan time)

Didn't do anything too spectacular today. I made Japanese food today, lol. It consists of carrots, lotus root and burdock, lol. My mother boils burdock to drink as a herbal remedy for her sickness but as it turns out, you can also eat that stuff! =) It tastes good too. =) It's a bit earthy. I made too much so I gave a portion of it to Dinara. She really likes that stuff too, lol.

I first ate it when I was over at my host families house, lol. I ate it and yea... I was trying to figure out the ingredients so I could make it myself. I got everything right minus the sake, lol. (Japanese alcohol) But yea, that's all~ I didn't really do much today either. Just relaxed.

Friday January 7 2011 (Japan time)

I decided to attend a Kendo session at the University. LOL It was interesting. It is now official - my arms are too long for my body, lol. My shoulders were slightly contorted when I held the stick in front of me, lol. (Properly)  The footwork was, for the most part, easy to get use to.. We also combined a basic strike technique with the footwork, lol. I had to leave prematurely because I was supposed to meet up with my host sister to practice some English, lol. I met up with her at around 4:45. We practiced until 6 then I we went home. The weather was nasty today... It was blizzarding hcore, lol. I took a picture of it. It's the first photo you see at the top~ Apparently, if it got any worse, all of the buses would have stopped and yea.. People who live downtown would have been doomed, lol. I ran out of food to cook so I just ate two eggs with the veggy dish I made yesterday~ That's all for today. =)

Saturday January 8 - Sunday January 9th 2011 (Japan time)

I made oden on sunday~ Lol 「おでん」 I was craving for some hot since the weather today was also miserable. It takes a bit of time to make so I usually don't make stuff like this but yea, today was an exception~ It tasted damn good. =) I did not take any pictures but yea, take my word for it. =) It was good. I finished all of my homework today~ So + for me. I also watched a Korean horror movie called, "The Haunted House Project." It was actually quite good, lol. I enjoyed most of it. =) (For the most part...)

I ate yesterdays dinner for breakfast today. =) It was good, lol. Really warmed me up in the morning. I chatted with mother, sister and uncle today. I took a nap at around 2PM and woke up 3PM, lol. I was more tired today than usual. Anyhow, nothing today either. The weather was ugly too but it's slowly improving. =) I shall now go cook, lol. I finally caught up to almost 2 weeks of posting.. (Lol T-T)
