So it is my second day in Sapporo. I went to Hokkaido University of Education today after leaving the Youth Hostel. The documents they sent me said it would only take 1hr to get there but it took me almost 2hrs to get there via JR transit and walking. I saw Nami and I tried my best to ask her to move me to the school dormitories but since I won the JASSO scholarship, I might not be able to move into the dorms. But the thing is, even though I get 80,000Y a month, all of it spent towards utility and bus fare. In the end, I'm left with 200Y to live off. In a way, winning this scholarship is a good and bad thing.
I sent an email proposal to Nami suggesting if I could move into the dormitories after a month, when things settle down. I will await her reply and hopefully she'll be willing to consider. However, shortly after sending the email, I was acquainted with two other people who are going to the same University as I am. They live one floor lower and I was forced to use my Japanese today, lol. One is from a country beside China and the other is from England. The girl from England passed out immediately after arriving because she was experiencing jet lag. I sat down with the other girl and we had a nice long chat. She didn't really understand English so that forced me to speak Japanese. However, she knew enough English so that we were not at a complete stop when I did not know how to describe what I wanted to say in English. Interestingly, it seems like I like using the same grammar points over and over again. PS: even though this is an international housing institute, people who live here know crazy Japanese. I feel inadequate, lol. I also met the international supervisor on my floor and he was really friendly. He's quite outgoing which is nice because it breaks the ice. I also met a Korean guy, a Cambodian guy and a Chinese guy. All seem very nice. Hopefully things will work out. Well, that's all for now. It's getting late so I shall now to bed. Take care everyone. No pictures yet. =) I am still waiting for my luggage.
Please tell me that's a typo - 200Y, that's like $2.45 CAD. What can you buy with that?!! Mom left you with some spending money I hope? You also still have some money left over from when you left Calgary right? Did you get your luggage yet? What a cluster f*ck!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're ok. I worry about you... Let us know if you need help.
Sis
Sorry, that is a typo. I was converting in my head when I was typing that amount. It's 20,000Y which is roughly 250CAD.
ReplyDeletePhew!! That's a little bit better. Had me scared for a minute. I was starting to picture my baby brother homeless and starving in Japan... Nice blog btw. I like the photos you've uploaded especially the one of Hachiko the dog... I recently watched the North American version of that movie and cried my eyeballs out. Hope you're settling in with school and such. Good luck!! xox Sis
ReplyDeleteHi Ray!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading all your adventures and you sound like you're having fun so far! Fun with a bit of confusion =P
I hope you get your luggage soon! And then go eat lots and lots of crab HAHAHAHA
Keep updating!
