I think it's time to peck at this blog, nice and slow. I am just getting lazier and lazier these days... But not THAT lazy since I cleaned my room today! =) Hohoho... (Trust me, that was an accomplishment) So yea, I am turning this post into a picture post. Lol. I don't really remember what happened exactly 3 weeks ago so yea... There's also way too many pictures, lol.
Okay, and it starts...
The following pictures were taken at the male dormitory. It was a party night. =)
This was the entire crew |
The guy with the white pants, red shirt and grey sweater is indeed wearing a hairclip |

The following pictures were taken with the Baking club, lol. My third time at the snow festival and my first time at the ice festival in 豊水すすきの Susukino.
Mongolia, I think. |
Honey combs, anyone? And by the way, these statues were still in the process of making two days ago, lol. They are the international ones. Forgot who made this one though. |
The poor guy was slightly perforated by the sun rays... =( Forgot which country this was. |
Sweden I believe~ |
ROAR --- No idea which country. |
HK~ |
And the ice festival begins! |
Pheonix |
Yes sir. Those are indeed crabs and fish in the ice sculpture. (A waste of crab, I swear) |
Yes dear... The fish is bleeding because their blood vessels exploded in the process of freezing. |

This was the star of the entire event. =) (imo) |
And to end the event --- A big mouth =) |
Following photos were taken while I was in Engaru and Yuubetsu. (North of Hokkaido) I visited a Junior high and an Elementary.
The Junior High is new, lol. The walls are white and the wood looks new. =) |
"Lockers" |
Random hallway with random desks. |

You can see the illuminated ski hill in the back... I think I remember seeing one person on the slopes, LOL. This was closed to Monbetsu, by the way. My friend took me to Monbetsu because yea, it's the one of the few populated cities up north, lol. There used to be a fair amount of people who lived here but meh.. It died because the government didn't really support it. |
The elementary school wall of preserved goods. =) |
Hallway. By the way, this elementary school is located in a small town called Barou, lol. The population dwindles and there is NO convenient store in this town.. (omg) |
Hallway and washroom sinks. |
I felt sorry for the fish swimming in this tank. |
Shoe rack. |
Alright, this is the only reason why I would want to be an Elementary School Teacher... Because of awesome kids like this little boy. As you can see, he's wearing an apron with a little head handkerchief. In Japanese countryside, food is delivered to schools and the students hand out the food. This little boy turns out to be the server for today (Along with 3 others) But yea, while we were eating, the little boy said something to the teacher and the teacher replied, "Why don't you try inviting him." Lol~ So yea, I was interested... I looked at him and he said, "恥ずかしい," lol. In other words, "It's embarrassing." LOL~~ I just had to take a picture of him. He's such a cool kid. Everyone in class was laughing. When he saw the camera, he ran out of the room, lol. Ahh~ I want to be a kid again... BUT YEA. In the end, he wanted to ask me to play with him over Spring Break.. I told him I couldn't because.. well.. I'm leaving the following day... |
Dinner with my lovely grade 2's and 3's. You can sort of see the cool kid in the back. =) |
This kid and the shy kid were the loudest "couple" during Q&A period. Oh yea, I went to the Elementary school with my friend today because yea, he was doing his self introduction... He's only going to this school once and that was today... I don't know why he had to do a self introduction, lol. Or go to this school at all in the first place. |
Can you tell which one is the cool kid? Hint: He's wearing a sweater with random English, lol. |
That night.. when we were driving back home, lol. It was blizzarding, of course. |
Yuubetsu 7AM in the morning. |
My last picture of Yuubetsu. Goodbye~ (tear) |
The following pictures were taken on a third/fourth Sunday of February. Dinara was performing and yea, Christine and I went to watch.. I took a few random photos. =)
Children~ |
Can you spot Dinara? |
Dinara Backstage |
So... interesting story.. I woke up extremely late today, LOL. I woke up when Christine texted me.. And yea, when she texted me, I was supposed to meet her at the station... LOL~ Woops.. So yea, I got ready in 15 minutes and flew out the door. I got to the station at around 11:45AM and yea, she was lost, lol. In the end, we arrived at the place JUST in time. =) It was like I was never late to begin with, lol. I do look rather grungy though. |
How the hell do you expect me to eat such a thing.. Hell, how do you expect a little child to eat this thing. |
This lady has quite the character... |
Dinara again. |
The following photos were taken during the Kendo farewell Party. =) It was at an onsen/hotspring resort, lol.
Lol, the guy doing the peace sign is one of the three people who are graduating. |
And the drunk fest begins. |
The guy with his arm up is also 1 of 3 people who are graduating. =) And yea, everyone was quite drunk.. the ones up are, at least. |
Mastermind coordinator. |
The guy in the dark blue sweater is the last person who is graduating. =) |
The last photo on my camera, lol. |
Next in line is a trip to Otaru with Lisa and Bibi. Scott and Gerreth were supposed to show up but they got lazy and decided to ditch, lol. I won the bet. And yea, there were tons of Hong Kong'ers there, lol. A lot of tourists in general, I guess. I met a family from Hong Kong on the way to Otaru and yea, I was hesitant to talk to them in Canto because I haven't spoken in Canto for so long... -sigh- By the way, we went to Otaru for the candle festival. We also explored the town a wee bit since it was Lisa's first time.
Welcome to Otaru. =) |
The cool guy from last time in a different outfit! |
No, my hair is not sticking up. That is a road in the back. |

I think that's a family of HK'ers. |
Mhm... |
Up close of a wax candle and a pile of snowballs. |
From the other side of the river. =) |
Who would have ever thought piles of snow balls would be so cool... |
The structure with mini people living in a tunnel-like system. |
Feeling peachy |
Final photo of the River. |
Saw this along the way to the station. |
The following photos were taken during the festival in our "dormitory/apartment/living quarters." Christine came over and yea, we made Pancakes because it was the most "Canadian" like thing we could think of, LOL. (There was maple syrup. Maple syrup = Canadian) But yea LOL. It was fun. There were dances, poster displays, food and yea, a farewell party. The festival was pretty is pretty much just an international festival where the staff members convince exchange students to show off their country... So yea, here are the photos.
Mochi making people. |
Mochi serving people. |

The following photos are taken at a flower festival in Sapporo city. I went with Dinara and Christine. We did other things afterward but I did not take any pictures after, lol.
I thought these were Sakura but they were something else... I forgot the name of the flowers. |
YES! Finally sort of caught up... The following posts will be more clear, LOL. I feel like blogging about everything this month because it's my last month here and I will miss this city and its people..
うあ、you finally updated! I thought you got kidnapped =O
ReplyDeleteSo...I was wondering....suppose I came to Japan around May 20ish....where in Japan would you be? And would you be in exam mode?
Lol, indeed. I just got lazier and lazier.. =(
ReplyDeleteIf you come at around May 20th, I will still be in School in a fishing town called Kushiro, east of Hokkaido. =) LOL~ I will also be living in the dormitories, conducting research (Hopefully) and yea~ It won't end until uhh... Beginning of August, lol. Same with all of the other Uni kids in Japan. =)!
Are you planning on visiting? =)
Are you still in Sapporo?
ReplyDeleteI hear Japan is in a state of emergency after the earthquakes
Did you feel them there?
Its supposed to be the strongest earthquake in Japan like ever and 5th strongest in the world of all time.
Oh wow, that's pretty cool actually ;o~ And yes, I am in Sapporo. I guess my plans for traveling is now spoiled. Then again, I get to spend more time with the people in Sapporo, which was my original plan anyways.
ReplyDeleteAnd yea, Japan is indeed in a state of emergency. Sendai was wiped quite clean.
I felt it while making spring rolls and I felt a bit dizzy afterward. It wasn't too strong but yea, other parts of Japan were hit much, much harder. It just sort of.. shook the buildings in Sapporo. Nothing fell so yea, it wasn't too grande.
Another boring day at work for me.
ReplyDeleteHow is Vannie?
As you can tell I don't use facebook much.
On a side note, the University of Calgary is requesting you come back to Calgary.
Amazingly they have to sent this email to everyone too, just to show how responsible they are.
Are you going to come back to Calgary?
I personally think people are overreacting, and it would be a pain in the butt to come back with the airports full and would take days or even a week to come back at this rate.
Full airports, difficult to get food, and water. People all sleeping at the airports to get out. How not fun.

Subject: U of C Students in Japan and Japanese Students on Campus
In response to the rapidly evolving and uncertain situation in Japan, the University of Calgary is requesting that its students in Japan now leave that country as soon as possible in order to ensure their safety.
We believe this request to be prudent and timely, and are not making this request lightly. We highly value our partnerships with Japanese institutions.
The University of Calgary will help students affected by this request with travel arrangements, if required, and address other concerns that may arise for them. We will work with our partner universities in Japan to help exchange students finish courses. There will be no academic penalties for those unable to do so. The university will also help affected students cover unexpected travel costs.
We encourage Japanese students who are currently studying at the University of Calgary to take advantage of the personal and academic support services available to them. They may access personal support by visiting or calling the SU Wellness Centre (Room 370, MacEwan Student Centre, 403-210-9355). International students may also contact the Centre for International Students and Study Abroad (CISSA) at cissa@ucalgary.ca or 403-220-5581. CISSA is located in Room 275, MacEwan Student Centre.
I just saw this news article too.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.torontosun.com/news/canada/2011/03/18/17677221.html
By the way, I just noticed a reply I posted days ago didn't actually get posted.
How are you doing amongst all this devastation?
I've been checking the Japan news every couple of hours. Hope the nuclear disaster will be averted....
Do you think you'll go back to Calgary before August?
Dennis: LOL why do you hate facebook so much? It's so convenient. >) And yea, I got that message from them two days ago. It was the first thing I checked early in the morning and it ruined my day. =(
ReplyDeleteI think I will be staying though, lol! The situation doesn't seem to be as big as media outside of Japan portrays it to be.. But then again, the media inside Japan seems too relaxed~ A few people have gone back home. A girl from Norway went back home but will be back April 4th. A girl from Alaska is going back home for a, "Vacation." All of the German's were rushed home. I think it's fine here, lol.
Amy: Nah, I will be in Japan all the way until the end of my exchange~ (Even longer, if possible, lol)
I am doing quite well amongst this chaos, lol. Actually, if you live in Sapporo.. It almost seems like this big problem did not occur in the first place. Totally 暢気 here.
where is the monthly update???
ReplyDeleteI demand reliability.
haha
how are you vannie?
how is the new town?
